Travel Information


We strongly recommend that ICRS attendees use a travel agent for their bookings to Aviemore. Using services such as Expedia do not work very well.

By Air:

Scotland’s 4 main airports to fly into or connect with are Inverness, Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow.

..Inverness Airport is the air gateway for the Highlands and Islands of Scotland. The following flights operate:

4 flights/day from London Gatwick on Easyjet or Flybe
2 flights/day - Birmingham on Eastern Airways
2 flights/day - Manchester on Eastern Airways
2 flights/day - Edinburgh on British Airways
2 flights/day - Dublin on Aer Arann
1 flight/day - Bristol flying on Easyjet
1 flight/day - Southhampton/Leeds Eastern Airways
1 flight/day - London luton on Easyjet
1 flight/day - East Midlands on Ryanair
1 flight/day - London Heathrow on British Midland

The airport is located 9 miles east of the City of Inverness.  If arriving at Inverness airport on June 25th, we will arrange to collect you by bus direct to the McDonald Highland Resort. Depending on your time of arrival there may be a short wait at the airport.  We will soon post a link to a web site where you can book and pay for your transfer through Pay Pal. Alternatively, taxis are available at the airport and buses operate to and from the airport terminal to Inverness city centre. 


..Aberdeen Airport (ABZ) is BAA Scotland's fastest-growing airport. Flights from various destinations fly into Aberdeen aiport, including London Heathrow, London Gatwick, London Luton, Manchester, Bristol, Copenhagen, Stravanger, Bergen, Amsterdam and Paris (CDG).

We can offer a coach transfer service from Aberdeen Airport on Wednesday, June 25th, with return service to the airport on Monday, June 30th. The coach journey will take around 2 hours.  Please be aware there may be a wait at the airport between your flight arriving/departing and the times of the coaches.  There will also be a limit to the number of passengers we can transport so please book early.  We will shortly be posting a link to a web site where you can book and pay for your transfers through Pay Pal. ..Edinburgh International Airport (EDI) is situated 10 miles west of Edinburgh. The airport offers a wide range of domestic and international flights to Europe and North America. Many visitors to the city arrive via a connecting flight from London, the UK's main international hub. Edinburgh Airport does, however, have a daily flight to and from Newark (Continental Airlines), a short drive from New York City and also a daily flight to and from Atlanta, Georgia (Delta Air Lines).

There are 2 flights a days from Edinburgh Airport to Inverness airport (where we can arrange to pick you up) flying with British Airways.

..Glasgow International Airport (GLA) is located 14km west of the centre of Glasgow near the towns of Paisley and Renfrew is the principal airport for domestic flights and also has transatlantic links to Canada and the USA (Newark and Philadelphia). It also has a daily flight to Dubai, and a twice weekly service to Lahore, Pakistan. Both British Airways and bmi operate frequent shuttle flights to Glasgow Airport throughout the day to and from London Heathrow. If you are flying into the UK via Heathrow you will usually connect into Glasgow via one of these airlines. easyJet flies from Luton, Stansted and Gatwick.

Glasgow Airport operates a  frequent bus services (service 500) to Glasgow Central, Queen Street railway stations and Buchanan bus station - every seven minutes at peak times. Single fare to the city centre is £3.95 and £5.95 return. Approximate guide to journey time from airport to city centre by bus is 25 minutes. The city centre bus stops have an airport link logo on them.
